Gateway Club is social club for people aged over 19 offering inhouse workshops and evenings out in the community, including dance workshops and pub quizzes.
The Gateway Club is for people aged 19+ who have a learning disability or additional needs.
The club meets on Thursday evenings, 7-9pm, and attracts members from around mid-Essex. Most in-house sessions are held at Mencap Centre, Mildmay Road, in central Chelmsford.
Activities include arts, cultural and sports workshops and trips to local attractions and events. The club holds a quarterly pub quiz and regular discos.
Members take an active role in the club by sharing their ideas and assisting at events. Member-inspired sessions for 2019 include celebrating Chinese New Year, Gateway's own Bake Off and a take on Henley Regatta.
This year, we are delighted and grateful to have received funding for our programme from Souter Charitable Trust and Active Chelmsford.
This year’s programme is inspired by the adventures of Phileas Fogg, who went around the world in eighty days in a hot air balloon! We are exploring countries around the world in 40 days, on a virtual trip to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics!
Gateway Club members will be 'visiting' eleven countries around the world, from Canada to Australia, and taking part in dance, music, cultural and sports workshops that are popular in each country. From Salsa percussion workshops in Brazil to Bake Off challenges in Germany, we have something for everyone!
